This county campground is in the heart of Pembroke Pines not far from I-75. Pembroke Pines is about 30 miles Northwest of Miami. The full hookup sites are spacious but access to some sites can be tricky for bigger rigs although they all seem to manage it somehow. Some sites are very shady others right in the open. The CG stays very busy during the winter months so reservations are crucial if you want to stay in one spot. We stayed here for several weeks in a 2 month span during our move to Florida so we got a good idea how busy this CG stays. They have a primitive tent area which was used quite regularly by youth groups. The groups were chaperoned and well behaved. The CG sits at the corner of Flamingo Road and Pines Blvd -- a shopping mecca for this area. A hospital is across the street from the CG entrance, a major shopping mall is closeby as well as many restaurants. With this much shopping you get lots of traffic and you will hear the road noise but it's not that bad from the CG since it sits back off the main road.
The county park area is very popular with the locals...it stays extremely busy on the weekends especially the tennis courts, waterpark and the pavillions. We never saw folks visitng the general park wandering into the CG although they could because there is no extra gate. The park rangers make sure the main park area is cleared out when the park closes. Also be aware locals visiting the park are charged a fee on the weekends -- CG patrons are not charged a fee but must wait in the line which can get very long at peak times.
FYI - There is a large concert area nearby. We did encounter a concert during one of our stays and it was brutal. The music went on all evening and late into the early morning stopping around 3 a.m. but starting again the next morning at 7 a.m. We were checking out that morning so I don't know how much longer it lasted. We later learned it was a charity event for cancer. You can probably find out if a concert will occur during your stay by talking with the office as these things are planned way in advance.
We stayed on site 11 and 12 during the 2 month period. Our roof top satellite worked great on site 11 — we had to pull forward a bit on site 12 to get a good signal. WiFi available @ Starbucks on Flamingo Road — about 5 min by car or @ Barnes and Noble off Pines Blvd. We were grateful to have such a great CG to use to during our house hunting and enjoyed the stay a lot -- except for that one night during the concert. :-(
Pics descriptions in order. Site 11, Site 12, lake view from site 12, and last 2 - example of sites from a distance.
